HR Hotline Live: Managing Common Wage & Hour Problems

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Wage payment laws can be complex and confusing, frequently leading to inadvertent employer error resulting in liability for back wages, fines and penalties, and even the claimant’s attorney’s fees.

In this HR Hotline Live, CBIA HR Counsel Diane Mokriski joins Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey attorneys Vincent Farisello and Nick Zaino to discuss common wage and hour mistakes made by employers.

We’ll talk about the U.S. Department of Labor’s definition of “exempt” employees, what this classification means, and why employers cannot “make” an employee salaried exempt, even if the worker requests it.

We’ll discuss common traps for the unwary, such as the inappropriate employment of minors, knowing when to pay interns, and how to calculate overtime when a worker has two rates of pay.

And we’ll answer frequently asked questions, including:

  • Do we have to pay for travel time when an employee travels overnight?
  • Are we required to pay an employee who’s home, but on call?

Get your questions addressed live in this one-hour hotline.

This program is approved for 1.0 HRCI credits and 1.0 SHRM PDCs
