Paul Pescatello is senior counsel and executive director of CBIA’s Connecticut Bioscience Growth Council and serves as the council’s registered lobbyist.
A highly effective voice for the life sciences, Pescatello focuses on policies that foster the translation of basic research into clinical therapies, recognize the uniquely large investment necessary for effective biopharma research and development, and safeguard intellectual property.
Pescatello is an attorney with over 25 years of experience as an advocate and counsel for biotechnology, pharmaceutical and banking/venture capital-related interests.He is also president and CEO of the New England Biotech Association and co-chair of We Work for Health Connecticut.
As a partner at the law firm Shipman & Goodwin, Special Counsel to the Governor and as president and CEO of Connecticut United for Research Excellence, he was responsible for drafting and lobbying tax and economic development legislation, conceived by Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter and others, to make Connecticut more hospitable to start-up companies, small businesses and entrepreneurs.
In addition to his public affairs and public policy activities, Pescatello sits on numerous boards, including Connecticut Innovations, and represents several privately-held investment partnerships and limited liability companies.
He received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. He also holds a B.A. in political economy from Colorado College.
