April 25 Special Elections Will Fill House Vacancies

Voters in two state House districts head to the polls April 25 for special elections.
The 7^th House District, which covers northwest Hartford, and the 68^th House District, which includes all of Watertown and part of Woodbury, were vacated after the incumbents were elected to the state Senate.
Douglas McCrory (D-Hartford), and Eric Berthel (D-Watertown), resigned their House seats after winning Senate seats in Feb. 28 special elections.
McCrory ran for Senate in the 2^nd District after Eric Coleman, a veteran Democrat, resigned in anticipation of a judicial appointment.
Bethel won the 32^nd District after the Republican incumbent, Rob Kane, stepped down to become a state auditor.
Voters in the 7^th House District will choose from three candidates April 25.
Hartford Democrats endorsed Rickey Pinckney, a member of the party’s town committee.
He faces two opponents—Working Families Party candidate Joshua Hall, and petitioning candidate Kenneth Green, a former Democratic state representative.
Hartford Republicans did not nominate a candidate.
In the 68^th District, Republicans nominated Joe Polletta, a member of the Watertown Town Council.
He will square off against Democrat Louis Esposito, a member of the Watertown Planning and Zoning Commission, and a former town council member.
Polls will be open in both districts April 25 from 6 am to 8 pm.
Democrats currently hold a 78-71 advantage in the state House. The Senate is tied 18-18.
