Fairfield, Colchester Voters Head to Polls Jan. 14

Voters in Fairfield’s 132nd District and the Colchester area head to the polls Jan. 14 to fill two state House of Representatives vacancies.

Two candidates are running to fill the seat left vacant when Republican incumbent Brenda Kupchick resigned Nov. 22 after she was elected first selectwoman of Fairfield.

The Democratic Party endorsed Board of Education member Jennifer Leeper for the seat, held by Kupchick since 2011.

She faces Republican Brian Farnen, a member of the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting and general counsel at the Connecticut Green Bank.

The Nov. 20 death of 12-term state representative Linda Orange created the vacancy in the 48th House District—which includes parts of Colchester, Lebanon, Mansfield, and Windham.

Lebanon Republican Mark DeCaprio, who unsuccessfully challenged Orange in 2018, is running against Democrat Brian Smith, a former Colchester Board of Finance member.

A third special election is scheduled for Jan. 21 in Greenwich to fill the vacant 151st House seat held by Republican Fred Camillo since 2009.

Camillo resigned the seat Dec. 2 following his election as Greenwich first selectman.

Democrats currently control the House 90-58, with three vacant seats.
