HR & Safety

In 2016, OSHA updated its Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs for the first time in decades to reflect changes in the economy, workplaces, and evolving safety and health issues.
According to the agency, the updated recommended practices are designed to be used in a wide variety of small and midsize business settings and offer a step-by-step approach to implementing a safety and health program, built around seven core elements that make up a successful program:

  • Management leadership
  • Worker participation
  • Hazard identification and assessment
  • Hazard prevention and control
  • Education and training
  • Program evaluation and improvement
  • Communication and coordination for host employers, contractors, and staffing agencies
