CBIA Named OSHA Alliance Ambassador
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration selected CBIA as an OSHA Ambassador.
The selection is part of the agency’s Alliance Cooperative program.
Through the program, OSHA collaborates with partners to help prevent workplace fatalities, injuries, and illnesses.
These groups include trade and professional associations, labor unions, educational institutions, community and faith-based groups, and government agencies.
OSHA and alliance participants collaborate to provide workers and employers with information, guidance, and resources to promote workplace safety and health.
They also raise awareness of workers’ rights and employers’ responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Alliance participants do not receive exemptions from OSHA inspections or any other enforcement benefits.
CBIA chief financial officer Mary Bergamo signed a formal acknowledgement Dec. 5 with OSHA Bridgeport office area director Catherine Brescia, Hartford office area director Dale Varney, and CONN-OSHA director John Rosa.
The signing was the culmination of a process that began in February, 2016 when CBIA first joined the alliance program.
CBIA renewed with the program in 2018.
In that time, CBIA has worked with OSHA to improve workplace health and safety sharing information, guidance and access to training resources that address occupational hazards, and promoting understanding of the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers.
“Workplace safety is vitally important,” said Bergamo. “We are proud of our collaboration with OSHA in helping Connecticut companies provide their employees with a safe workplace.”
CBIA and OSHA will continue working together to:
- Provide communications on enforcement, regulatory, and outreach initiatives
- Engage in information sharing and technical discussions, especially regarding OSHA’s national initiatives
- Provide OSHA with opportunities to appear at CBIA events and programs
- Deliver safety and health courses and allow OSHA to participate
“We appreciated being selected as an OSHA ambassador, and look forward to continuing our partnership to promote workplace safety efforts and initiatives,” said Bergamo.
The ambassadorship will remain in effect for the duration of CBIA and OSHA’s ongoing cooperative association.
