State Makes $4.8M Robotics, Manufacturing Education Investment

Connecticut’s Department of Economic and Community Development this week announced a two-year, $4.8 million investment expanding robotics and advanced manufacturing education programs.
The funding comes from the state’s Manufacturing Innovation Fund and supports interactive STEM programs designed to prepare students for careers in high-demand industry sectors.
Multiple robotics platforms, including FIRST Robotics and VEX Robotics programs, will be supported, providing schools and students access to resources.
The initiative will also introduce new curriculum pilots that integrate robotics-based STEM learning into classrooms.
DECD’s Office of Manufacturing administers MIF funding and chief manufacturing officer Kirti Patel said the programs teach technical skills, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership.
“These programs create opportunities for students to explore, experiment, and make informed decisions.”

“This $4.8 million investment represents an investment in Connecticut’s students and our
future workforce in advanced manufacturing and engineering,” Patel said.
The investment also funds regional Manufacturing Careers Roadshows, which connect students with local manufacturers and showcase real-world applications of classroom skills.
Nonprofit workforce development organization ReadyCT assists schools with program implementation and manages the roadshows.
“When students are introduced to robotics and manufacturing early, they gain confidence,
creativity, and an understanding of how STEM can lead to exciting careers,” said executive director Shannon Marimón.
“These programs create opportunities for students to explore, experiment, and make informed decisions about their future pathways in engineering, technology, and manufacturing.”
