South Korean-based manufacturer Hanwha Aerospace announced Nov. 9 that is expanding its Connecticut operations.

The company will establish headquarters for its international engines division in Cheshire, on the site of a former Pratt & Whitney manufacturing facility.

Company officials said the expansion “reinforces its commitment to the ongoing innovation and growth in the region.”

“Through this strategic move, we will be able to better serve our key customers, expand our customer base, and solidify our position in the aerospace and defense industries,” Hanwha Aerospace president and CEO Jae-iI Son said in a statement.

“Furthermore, our expansion in Connecticut demonstrates our strong relationship with the state and our intention to strengthen these ties.”

Connecticut Presence

Hanwha has had a Connecticut presence since 2019, employing more than 600 people at facilities in Cheshire, East Windsor, Glastonbury, and Newington.

The Fortune Global 500 company will invest $2 million renovating the Cheshire facility and expects to add an additional 60 jobs at the new headquarters.

The Cheshire location also reinforces Hanwha’s partnership with Connecticut-based Pratt & Whitney.

“Hanwha has been a great partner for Pratt & Whitney.”

Pratt & Whitney’s David Emmerling

Pratt & Whitney vice president David Emmerling said Hanwha was that only partner that covered all of Pratt’s business lines, including commercial and military engines.

“Hanwha has been a great partner for Pratt & Whitney,” he told Hearst Connecticut Media.

“Having Hanwha close to us in Connecticut will only serve to allow us to expand our relationship further.”
