UI Rate Discount Targets Economic Development

United Illuminating is offering electricity distribution rate discounts to new and existing commercial and industrial customers that meet certain eligibility requirements.

The utility’s economic development rate is available to commercial and industrial customers either starting new service or expanding and adding incremental electric load in its territory.

Available for a five-year term, the standard EDR offers 15% off new or incremental load.

A 20% discount is available to commercial and industrial customers bringing new or incremental electric load to a service address located in a distressed or environmental justice community.

The EDR is designed for manufacturers, industrial customers, wholesalers, distributors, and businesses serving a regional, national, or global customer base.

Local businesses—those that primarily serve a local community—are not eligible for the discounted rate.
