Work-based learning is the focus of legislation being considered by the state legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.

Spearheaded by committee co-chair Rep. Gregg Haddad (D-Mansfield), HB 7094 enhances workforce development by expanding paid work-based learning opportunities.

The bill establishes a working group under the direction of the Office of Workforce Strategy charged with developing a grant program that increases the availability and participation in paid internships and other initiatives.

By connecting students directly to employers through paid internships and work-based learning opportunities, businesses can cultivate a skilled workforce tailored to their specific needs.

This direct connection not only helps students gain valuable experience but also allows businesses to identify and nurture talent.

Skills Gaps

HB 7094 addresses industry skills gaps by providing students with practical, hands-on experiences in their chosen fields.

This experience is crucial for developing the skills and competencies that employers demand, while streamlining the recruitment process.

By encouraging a more skilled and employable workforce, the bill fosters overall economic growth and stability.

Businesses that participate in the grant program may also benefit from financial incentives, further encouraging their involvement in workforce development initiatives.

This legislation can also level the playing field by providing small businesses in state with access to a pipeline of skilled interns and potential future employees.

This access helps small businesses grow and innovate, contributing to a more dynamic and competitive business environment.
