Connecticut Companies’ 2019 Paid Holidays

Every fall, CBIA surveys its members to find out what paid holidays they will be offering their employees in the upcoming year.
The results of the latest survey reflect responses from 273 Connecticut firms.
Companies were also asked if they would be giving employees time off for holidays not included in the survey.
No particular holiday dominated those responses; the most common choices were Columbus Day and the offering of floating holidays.

Survey Results

  • New Year’s Day (Tues., Jan. 1)—97% of respondents offering this holiday
  • Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday (Mon., Jan. 21)—11%
  • President’s Day (Mon., Feb. 18)—26%
  • Good Friday (Fri., April 19)—51%
  • Memorial Day (Mon., May 27)—98%
  • Independence Day (Thurs., July 4)—75%
  • Independence Day (and Fri., July 5)—22%
  • Labor Day (Mon., Sept. 2)—99%
  • Thanksgiving Day (Thurs., Nov. 28)—99%
  • Day after Thanksgiving (Fri., Nov. 29)—78%
  • Christmas Day (Wed., Dec. 25)—97%*
  • New Year’s Day (Wed., Jan. 1, 2020)—94%**

* Twenty percent of survey respondents indicated they are giving employees additional paid time off at Christmas:

  • Closed Christmas Eve—46%
  • Half day on Christmas Eve—24%
  • Closed Christmas week—20%
  • Closed Mon.-Wed. or Wed.-Fri. of Christmas week—10%

**Twenty-six percent of respondents reported giving employees additional paid time off at New Year’s:

  • Closed New Year’s Eve—16%
  • Half day on New Year’s Eve—50%
  • Closed between Christmas and New Year’s—16%
  • Closed Mon-Wed. and/or Thurs.-Fri. of New Year’s week—16%
