Connecticut State Colleges and Universities is receiving a $5 million federal grant to support workforce training at community colleges.

The Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grants program supports community colleges in developing workforce development programs and career pathways.

Acting U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Julie Su visited Connecticut Jan. 5 to highlight the funding along with U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro , Gov. Ned Lamont, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, and CSCU officials and students.

DeLauro said she created the program to “build out equity in our workforce and prepare our students to succeed.”

The program allows colleges to close equity gaps for marginalized and underrepresented populations.

CSCU said the money will be used to help students in the STEM field and provide career pathways to address workforce needs in the IT and technology sectors.
