The U.S. Department of Labor ‘s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) has released an Employee Guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), a 16-page, plain language booklet deigned to answer questions and clarify a number of issues for employees as well as employers. The new guide specifically addresses:

  • Coverage and eligibility
  • Qualifying reasons to take FMLA
  • FMLA rights and protections
  • Employer and employee notices
  • Medical certification
  • Reinstatement rights
  • How to file a complaint

The guide also includes easy-to-follow flowcharts that map out a number of FMLA processes.

The DOL says that a Spanish version of the guide will be available soon, and that WHD plans to issue a similar guidebook on military FMLA leave.
