A new resource from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is meant to help small business owners and others in the small business community navigate the maze of occupational safety and health information.

According to NIOSH, 70% of workplaces employ fewer than 20 people, yet, on average, these companies suffer higher fatality rates compared to larger organizations. They often are not able to have staff dedicated solely to addressing worksite safety and health; the responsibility is left to employees who have additional duties.

The Small Business Safety and Health Resource Guide will help business owners looking for resources on regulations, training materials, and recommendations. The guide includes summaries of and links to more than 50 websites produced by commercial, academic, and government organizations. Each site was reviewed for relevance, ease of use, and credibility. Based on reader s’ feedback and their use of the guide, NIOSH will continue to update it to keep it current.
