CBIA's Bonnie Stewart was a guest on WTIC AM 1080 with Ray Dunaway this morning. She told listeners that the governor’s budget proposal was a good first start, but further spending cuts were needed.
Stewart said legislators should consider cost-cutting options impacting state employee pension expenses, long-term care, and prisons, as identified by the Connecticut Regional Institute for the 21st Century.
When asked about the proposal to increase the state’s sales tax, Stewart said, "no tax is harmless."
Businesses now pay 44 percent of the state’s sales tax, and the proposal to increase the sales tax will be burdensome, especially for small businesses.
