CBIA has added three members to its Government Affairs Team.
Joining are Laura Cummings, Eric Gjede and Jennifer Herz, who already are at work on such issues as education, workforce laws and healthcare, and are preparing for the 2013 session of the General Assembly.
The three join Bonnie Stewart, vice president, Government Affairs; and Eric Brown, associate counsel, to represent the concerns and perspectives of Connecticut businesses at the State Capitol and state agencies.
Laura Cummings, staff attorney, is covering education, workers’ compensation and corporate governance and liability.Before joining CBIA, Laura was in private practice where she specialized in workers’ compensation insurance defense. Her experience also includes working in the state’s judicial system and conducting research and authoring reports for the Office of Legislative Research.
Laura received her J.D. from Western New England College School of Law, and her B.A. from Central Connecticut State University.

Eric Gjede, assistant counsel, is representing Connecticut businesses on labor and employment, commerce, and housing issues. Prior to CBIA, Eric was an associate legislative attorney with the Legislative Commissioners’ Office, the nonpartisan legal office of the Connecticut General Assembly.
In this position, he provided legal counsel to the members of the General Assembly’s committees on Commerce and Labor and Public Employees. He also drafted all the legislation and amendments considered by those committees.
Eric earned his J.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Law and also holds a B.A. from the University of Connecticut.

Jennifer Herz, assistant counsel, is working for the business community before state government on healthcare issues. Before joining CBIA, she was in private practice, specializing in the areas of real estate, land use, telecommunications and energy.
Jennifer also has previous experience in the Connecticut Siting Council, General Assembly, State Elections Enforcement Commission, and Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. She earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and also holds a B.A. from the University of Connecticut.
