Two incumbent state legislators lost in Connecticut’s Aug. 13 primary elections, as voters went to the polls to determine party candidates for a number of General Assembly and Congressional races.

In Stamford, three-term Democratic incumbent David Michel lost the 146th House District primary to community advocate Eilish Collins Main.

And in another Stamford race, Democratic state representative Anabel Figueroa, who won a special election last year, lost the 148th District primary to city representative Jonathan Jacobson.

In all, four state Senate District races featured Democratic primaries, along with one Republican primary election. 

There were Democratic primaries in 11 House districts, with one Republican House primary. 

Republican voters also decided who will face Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy and Democratic U.S. House Representative Jim Himes in November.

Four-term Democratic incumbent Doug McCrory won his 2nd Senate District primary against labor union leader Shellye Davis and school board member Ayanna Taylor

Enfield town councillor Cynthia Mangini took 66% of the vote over Windsor Board of Education member Nathan Wolliston in the 7th Senate District Democratic primary.

Quinnipiac University professor Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox won the Democratic primary in the 22nd District primary, defeating Bridgeport city councillor Scott Burns, former mayor Bill Finch, and former councillor Tyler Mack.

Former state senator and Bridgeport city councillor Ernie Newton lost his challenge to first-term incumbent Herron Gaston in the 23rd District Democratic primary.

Scotland paramedic Chris Reddy won the 29th District Republican primary over Susan Witkowski.

Incumbent Bobby Gibson won the Democratic 15th House District primary over Bloomfield Registrar of Voters Jennifer Marshall-Nealy.

David DeFronzo defeated fellow former New Britain city councillors Aram Ayalon in the 26th District Democratic primary.

Former state representative David Alexander lost the 58th District Democratic primary to Enfield town councillor John Santanella.

Southbury selectman Jason Buchsbaum won the Republican nomination for the 69th District, defeating Roxbury business owner Edwin Cady.

In the 88th District, which covers parts of Hamden, four-term Democratic incumbent Josh Elliott held off a primary challenge from local landlord Dan Garrett.

In the 91st District Democratic primary, Hamden town councillor Laurie Sweet defeated clinical research manager Jen Pope by 15 votes.

Steven Winter, New Haven’s climate and sustainability executive director, won the 94th District Democratic primary, defeating New Haven Board of Education member Tarolyn Moore and Hamden town councilor Abdul Osmanu.

Democrat Bob Godfrey, who has held the 110th District seat since 1989, held off a primary challenge from political newcomer Melissa Santana.

Five-term incumbent Andre Baker Jr. prevailed in the 124th District Democratic primary over Bridgeport town councilor Eneida Martinez.

Two-term incumbent Travis Simms won the the 140th District Democratic primary, defeating former Connecticut Board of Pardons and Paroles chair Carleton Giles.

Stamford community advocate Eilish Collins Main won 56% of the vote in the 146th District Democratic primary, unseating three-term incumbent David Michel.

Stamford city representative Jonathan Jacobson won 63% of the vote in 148th District Democratic primary to defeat incumbent Anabel Figueroa, who won a special election last year.

Navy veteran Matthew Corey defeated Beacon Falls first selectman Gerry Smith to win the Republican nomination for November’s U.S. Senate race.

Greenwich doctor and lawyer Michael Goldstein defeated Fairfield business owner Bob MacGuffie in the U.S. House 4th District Republican primary.
