Reimagine Connecticut—CBIA Releases 2024 Policy Pledge
The state’s largest business organization today released its 2024 legislative policy pledge, a 12-point package of solutions designed to unlock and reimagine Connecticut’s economy.
“Connecticut is at a critical point in its post-pandemic growth,” said CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima.
“Eighty percent of employers tell us they’re experiencing difficulty finding and retaining workers, and 91% say the cost of doing business is increasing.
“The ReimagineCT policy solutions help us seize the moment to expand our workforce, grow our economy, and improve our quality of life.”
Rather than endorse candidates for elected office, CBIA is encouraging them to sign the ReimagineCT policy pledge.
“This is an opportunity for those seeking office to show their commitment to our great state and its residents,” DiPentima said.
The ReimagineCT policy solutions are specifically designed to:
- Identify long-term policies to lower energy costs and improve our energy infrastructure
- Allow small businesses access to affordable, high-quality health insurance options for employees
- Boost manufacturing and trades job growth
- Align graduation and school accountability index requirements to focus on career readiness and provide new paid internship opportunities
- Implement first-time homebuyer tax incentives
- Expand access and affordable childcare options for working parents
- Restore the pass-through entity tax credit to its original level
- Encourage research and development growth
- Streamline state and local permitting
- Leverage councils of governments to share services and take advantage of federal grant opportunities to reduce property taxes
- Increase civil justice transparency through third-party litigation funding reform
DiPentima said the policies, developed with the input and engagement of a diverse group of stakeholders, including business, nonprofit, education, and community leaders, will help retain and attract residents, enhance and protect our workforce’s well-earned reputation for innovation and productivity, and promote the state as a destination for businesses of all sizes.
“The bipartisan fiscal guardrails enacted in 2017 helped put Connecticut in an incredible position to unlock our economy and chart a course for sustained growth,” he said.
“It’s critical that policymakers enact solutions that address the high costs of living and running a business, expand career pathways, foster innovation, and grow a vibrant economy with opportunities for all residents.
