Comcast has developed a program to help minority-owned small businesses, including those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Comcast chair and CEO Brian Roberts announced a multi-year plan to fight injustice and inequality by designating substantial resources to help small businesses owned by Black, indigenous, and people of color.

The company has launched Comcast RISE, which stands for representation, investment, strength, and empowerment.

Initially, Black small business owners will be eligible to apply for RISE before it’s expanded on Nov. 28 to other minority-owned businesses.

RISE will offer small businesses marketing and technology makeovers, which may include media placements, marketing consultations, commercial creative production services, or technology services.

This includes computer equipment, internet, voice and cybersecurity from Effectv, the advertising sales division of Comcast Cable, and Comcast Business, the company’s cable provider to small and mid-size businesses.

‘Sustainable Action’

“While we recognize we don’t have all the answers, we agree it’s time that we start putting our words into real, sustainable action,” Roberts wrote in a letter earlier this year to company employees.

In the coming months, Comcast will be awarding grants of up to $10,000 to these small businesses.

Roberts said Comcast is committed, among other things, to social justice, digital equality, and small business opportunity.

“We will partner with, and provide significant grants to, organizations working to eradicate injustice and inequity,” he wrote.

Comcast will use the full weight of its media resources to highligh “Black voices, Black stories, and educating our viewers on diverse and inclusive cultures, perspectives, and experiences by making anti-racism education and inequity awareness” a priority.

In addition, he said, “we will deepen our company’s long-standing commitment to addressing digital inequities, which disproportionately impact communities of color.”
