Governor Expands Public Access to Business Data

Gov. Malloy has signed Executive Order 38, expanding public access to information about how state business tax credits, loans and grants are being used.

The order directs the state Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) to create an online searchable database of businesses receiving state economic assistance (grants, loans, and loan guarantees), the amounts approved, and the results of the assistance.

What’s more, the governor directed the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) to produce an annual report for DECD of aggregate tax credit information.

Though state agencies already collect and make public the data on government programs, that information should be somewhat easier to find through the new DECD database, which must be launched by the end of March 2014.
