Jeffrey Geiger Retires from Electric Boat

General Dynamics Electric Boat president Jeffrey Geiger will retire Sept. 30 after 35 years with the Groton-based submarine manufacturer.

The company announced Geiger’s retirement following a Sept. 13 ceremony in Groton marking the groundbreaking on a major new manufacturing facility expansion.

Geiger will be succeeded by Kevin Graney, president of San Diego-based General Dynamics NASSCO, which designs and builds support ships for the Navy, along with oil tankers and dry cargo carriers.

Geiger took the helm at Electric Boat in 2013, when Kevin Poitras retired.

He joined the shipyard in 1984 as a production planner, holding a series of positions before being named president of General Dynamic Bath Iron Works in 2009.

At the Sept. 13 ceremony, Geiger described Electric Boat’s outlook as “the busiest times we’ve seen in a generation.”

Electric Boat has orders for 42 Virginia class and 12 new Columbia class submarines to be delivered over the next 20 years.

When assembly of the Columbia line begins in 2023, it will mark the first time the company has worked on two submarine classes at the same time.

Graney began his career with General Dynamics Electric Boat in 1995 as a senior engineer for the Virginia-class submarine program, assuming various leadership roles before becoming NASSCO president in 2017.
