More than 200 employees at a Morton Salt facility in Ohio were recently honored by the company for working 9 million hours without a lost-time incident, a first for Morton’s and for the salt industry.

The company says it has maintained its record of zero lost-time incidents since 1995 by focusing on employee training and other programming that empowers employees to maintain a safe workplace. The site is also working toward approval into OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Morton Salt already participates in VPP at the corporate level, just one of seven companies recognized to do so.

The site manager explains that the entire Morton workforce is united around the core value of maintaining a safe workplace. Nothing is more important to Morton Salt than health and safety, he says, not production, not sales, not profits.
