DEEP Commissioner Dan Esty announced Macky McCleary is joining the agency as Deputy Commissioner for Environmental Quality.

McCleary comes to the state from McKinsey & Co., the highly respected global management consulting firm, where he worked on transformational efforts for a wide variety of clients.

Most recently at McKinsey, McCleary was involved with several major international cities to help prioritize operational improvements they can make to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

He also recently managed a team that developed a long-term economic and environmental sustainability plan for a regional government organization in the Mid-Atlantic States.

As Deputy Commissioner at DEEP, McCleary will provide leadership for the three bureaus on the regulatory side: Water Protection and Land Reuse; Materials Management and Compliance Assurance; and Air Management.

His priority will be to lead a transformation of the regulatory branch of the agency aimed at making DEEP more effective and efficient.  This will involve building on DEEP's LEAN program and other initiatives.

His start date at DEEP has not been determined.
