Each month, we profile a Connecticut manufacturer, showcasing the ingenuity and innovation driving the state’s economy. For May, we spoke with MF Tool and Design LLC owner Matthew Formicola. The company is located in Berlin.
When was your company founded?
May of 2021
How many employees work for your company?
We have two employees, including myself.
What products does your company manufacture? Who are your customers?
We manufacture custom precision parts and tooling.
Why did you choose manufacturing?
I choose manufacturing because I enjoy the unique day-to-day work. It never feels mundane.
What makes your company unique?
We mainly work on jobs with less than two weeks lead time, compared to six to eight weeks in most other shops. We also take on lower quantity work.
Why did you choose Connecticut?
There is a vast amount of opportunity in manufacturing here in Connecticut.
I grew up here in the state, completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker for a local company, and decided to open my own shop.
What is the greatest advantage to operating in Connecticut?
There is a high number of small and medium shops locally.
Where do you see your company in five years? Ten years?
I hope to hire more employees and expand to more shop space.
