Gov. Ned Lamont has appointed Natalie Braswell, a former high ranking official in the state comptroller’s office, to complete the final year of Comptroller Kevin Lembo’s four-year term.

Lembo, a Democrat who was first elected comptroller in 2010, announced Dec. 3 that he will retire at the end of the year because of a serious health condition.

Lamont announced Braswell’s appointment Dec. 10.

Braswell currently serves as the chief of legal, planning, and regulatory affairs at the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

She spent 10 years in the comptroller’s office as general counsel and assistant comptroller before taking the DEEP position in February.

State law requires that when the legislature is not in session, the governor fills constitutional office vacancies.

Lamont told reporters earlier this week he would appoint an interim comptroller—someone who was not interested in running for election next year.

All six of the state’s constitutional offices, including the governor’s office, will be on the ballot next November, along with all 187 General Assembly seats.
