Stanley Black & Decker has been named a recipient of the 2020 Reuters Responsible Business Awards recognizing leadership in sustainable business.

The New Britain-based manufacturer won in the Business Transformation Category, recognizing its commitment to embracing innovative opportunities that enable it to address social and environmental challenges while developing sustainable business models for the future.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Reuters Responsible Business Awards,” Stanley Black & Decker president and CEO Jim Loree said.

“We believe corporations have a broader role to play in society, helping to solve the world’s challenges, such as climate change, income inequality, and workforce development.

“At Stanley Black & Decker, our mission is to be a force for good.”

This marks the 12th year Reuters has presented the awards but the first time it’s been done via a virtual ceremony, held over two days in October.

Awards are given in 14 categories relating to sustainable business practices.

Liam Dowd, managing director, Reuters Events Sustainable Business, said the awards recognize the need for action, new business models, new forms of investments, and new ways of collaborating.

“2020 is a pivotal year for business, requiring corporations to step up ambitions to tackle and adapt to the changing climate,” he said.
