CBIA Statement on Governor Malloy’s Opening Day Address
CBIA President & CEO Joe Brennan released the following statement today:
“This was a serious but necessary message from Governor Malloy that reflects the priorities that we hear from our members.
“Predictability and stability are key to instilling greater confidence in employers so they invest, grow, and create jobs in Connecticut. We and our members were heartened to hear the Governor stress both predictability and stability throughout his speech, particularly in terms of closing the state’s budget gap.
“The Governor’s top priorities resonate well in the business community. First, reduce budget deficits by making state government more productive and efficient. The administration has done a lot over the last few years to lean government operations, but as the Governor said, more needs to be done.
“Second, make state employee wages and benefits more affordable for taxpayers. We believe this, along with leaning government, are important steps in closing budget gaps while maintaining essential services and avoiding further harmful tax increases.
“Third, the Governor stressed the importance of proper funding of education and supporting the state’s cities.
“We are hopeful that the legislature will work in a truly bipartisan fashion to help build a more vibrant economy in Connecticut.
“We look forward to working with the Governor and both Democrats and Republicans to accomplish this goal.”
