March job numbers from the Connecticut Department of Labor show an increase of 2,600 jobs across the state and an unemployment rate that remained unchanged at 8.0%.

"But I think the big news," says CBIA economist Pete Gioia, "is that the Department has started to do a three-month moving average of where jobs are going...and this shows that there's a path of modest job growth" over the first quarter of this year.

"That's a positive trend," says Gioia, "but it's still at a very weak rate." Connecticut has seen only 1,000 jobs net over the course of the year, year over year, which shows that "a lot the monthly figures are so volatile, it's hard to track what's going on"_"
