Former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett will be the keynote speaker at a June criminal justice conference hosted by Governor Dannel Malloy and his wife Cathy Malloy.

Jarrett is among an array of speakers from the public and private speakers at the two-day Reimagining Justice conference in Hartford.

The conference features discussions about the collateral consequences a person faces after getting involved in the criminal justice system.

It will also try to strengthen a growing consensus that states must re-imagine justice in order to reduce crime and lower incarceration rates.

The event is scheduled for June 14 and 15 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.

Agenda topics include:

  • Juvenile and young adult offenders: Adapting the system to recognize the differences in brain development among juveniles, young adults, and adults.
  • Pretrial justice: Examining bail reform.
  • Incarceration: Recognizing the human dignity of inmates.
  • Re-entry: Providing job training, education, housing, and employment opportunities for ex-offenders.

CBIA has long supported programs that give ex-offenders a second chance.

Malloy, in a press release, said the conference is geared toward anyone interested in reforming the criminal justice and corrections systems.
