The federal government is investing in the growth of model-based definition in Connecticut’s commercial manufacturing sectors.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration awarded a Tech Hubs Strategy Development Grant to the Model-Based Enterprise Tech Strategy Development Consortium.

The grant is designed to scale the adoption of model-based definition in aerospace, medical devices, and clean energy.

Connecticut’s Department of Economic and Community Development will lead the consortium, which serves both Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Economic Benefits

The team will use the grant to increase coordination and plan activities to strengthen the region’s capacity to manufacture, commercialize, and deploy technologies critical to U.S. economic and national security.

Gov. Ned Lamont said the grant will generate wide-range economic benefits to both states and the region.

“The manufacturing industry in Connecticut and Rhode Island is a substantial economic driver, and a big reason for our success is the strength of the companies in our supply chain and the dynamic ecosystem that has evolved here,” Lamont said.

“This grant will allow Connecticut and Rhode Island to build upon our shared success to date.”
