Travelers Makes $24M in Charitable Contributions
From grants and donations, to partnerships and support for nonprofits, The Travelers Companies, Inc. made $24.4 million in charitable contributions in 2023.
The insurer released its 2023 Community Report May 21, detailing its “commitment to taking care of the places where we live and work.”
More than 40% of Travelers’ charitable contributions, $10.17 million, went to support Connecticut-based organizations.
The report also highlighted the more than 100,000 volunteer hours logged in the past year by Travelers employees, including 18,400 volunteer hours in Connecticut.
The company said its giving and volunteer efforts are focused on improving academic and career success, developing thriving neighborhoods, and creating culturally enriched communities.
Community Commitment
More than 20% of Travelers’ charitable support went to community and economic development efforts.
“We take immense pride in supporting the places we call home, a culture clearly demonstrated through the thousands of hours employees dedicate to important causes each year,” said Travelers Foundation president Marlene Ibsen.
Travelers committed more than $5 million to organizations and initiatives focused on academic and career development.
That includes Travelers EDGE, the company’s talent pipeline program.
Travelers also partnered with ReadyCT, providing a $600,000 grant dedicated to helping expose Hartford-area high school students to professional development opportunities.
And the company hosted 30 students from ReadyCT’s G.R.I.T. (Get Ready! Immersive Training) program, providing students with project-based learning experiences in insurance, financial services and technology.
Contributions
The 2023 Travelers Championship alone raised more than $3 million for more than 160 nonprofits.
The primary beneficiary of the 2023 tournament was The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which provides year-round care, programs, and a camp experience for children with serious illnesses and their families.
Other charitable contributions from include:
- Sponsoring two awards at the Connecticut Invention Convention
- Donating a van to Hands on Hartford
- Co-sponsoring the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts 2023-24 Broadway Series
- Collaborating with the Wadsworth Atheneum to host more than 250 elementary school students for a production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker and learn about careers in ballet
- Supporting Hartford’s reSET, which works to advance the social enterprise sector
“The stories featured throughout this year’s report showcase our unwavering commitment to forge meaningful connections with community partners and contribute to the success of our local neighborhoods,” said Ibsen.
Over the past decade, Travelers’ giving totals approximately $234 million.
