Background Checks Reveal Inconsistencies
Forty-nine percent of the reference checks conducted by ADP Screening and Selection Services last year turned up differences in information between what the applicant said and what the source reported.
Six percent of the information differences were received with negative remarks about the applicant. Reference checks include education, employment, and credential verifications.
Of the criminal background checks ADP conducted, 5% revealed a criminal record in the last seven years. Among completed driving record checks, 24% had one or more violations or convictions; 5% had four or more.
Forty-six percent of the credit report checks showed a judgment, lien or bankruptcy, or indicated the person had been reported to a collection agency.
ADP conducted 4,861,435 background checks in 2005, a 12% increase over the previous year.
