The state’s largest business organization issued the following response to today’s release of the February 2023 employment report

“February’s gains bring year-to-date growth to 14,400 new jobs, marking a very strong start to the year,” CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima said.

“This is welcome news as we continue our pandemic recovery, and we must do everything we can to continue this momentum, accelerate job growth, and address the labor shortage.

“We know the jobs are here in Connecticut—97,000 open positions.

“Given that Connecticut’s labor force participation, voluntary quits and overall separation rates are among the best in the country, it’s clear we need to bring more people to the state.

“Employers are doing everything they can to create attractive, rewarding career opportunities and workplaces to attract and retain talent.

“Sustaining this positive job growth trend means expanding career pathways, adding new housing options, and addressing the high costs of living and doing business.”

“The continuing labor force declines remain a concern, down 2,000 from last month with a 12-month drop of 42,800.

“As we reach the midway point of the legislative session, lawmakers must focus on solutions that make Connecticut a more affordable place to live and work and avoid costly new workplace mandates and tax hikes.”
