Monroe Representative Resigns State House Seat

State Rep. J.P. Sredzinski (R-Monroe) resigned his seat Feb. 17, setting up a potential second House vacancy.

Sredzinski, who was first elected to the House in 2015, said he stepped down to spend more time with his family and focus on his career.

“If there is anything positive that the COVID-19 pandemic has showed me, it is that family and personal relationships are the most important aspect of our lives,” Sredzinski wrote in his resignation letter to Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

Sredzinski’s 112th House District covers parts of Monroe and Newtown.

He was a Republican whip and served on the Human Services, Public Safety and Security, and Higher Education and Employment Advancement committees.

Special Election

Gov. Ned Lamont scheduled a special election for April 13 to fill Sredzinski’s seat.

Sredzinski is the second state legislator to resign in 2021.

Democrat Carlo Leone of Stamford resigned his 27th District Senate seat Jan. 5 to take a position with the state Department of Transportation.

A special election is set for March 2, with state Rep. Patricia Billie Miller (D-Stamford), Republican Joshua Esses, and Independent Brian Merlen contesting the seat.

If Miller wins the vacant Senate seat, a special election will also be required in her 145th House District seat.
