WBDC Kicks Off Grant Applications

The Women’s Business Development Council is kicking off the next round of applications for two of its signature grant programs.

The Ignite Grant Program and the Child Care Business Opportunity Fund help women entrepreneurs invest, grow, and attract and retain workers.

WBDC said access to capital is one of the most persistent challenges for small businesses.

“For women business owners, even a relatively small infusion of capital can mean the difference between maintaining momentum and missing out on opportunities to hire, expand services, upgrade equipment, or increase revenue,” the organization said in a news release.

Grant Details

The Ignite Grant Program, which offers grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000, is designed specifically for women-owned businesses.

Applicants must have clearly defined projects expected to have a measurable impact on business growth and profitability.

Businesses can apply until Sept. 14.

The Child Care Business Opportunity Fund provides grants of up to $25,000 to help licensed and aspiring child care businesses launch, expand, and increase capacity.

The fund is offered in partnership with the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood.

The application deadline is Aug. 31.

Program Success

Since launching in 2020, the Ignite Grant Program has provided $4.8 million in funding to 519 small businesses across Connecticut.

During that same period, the Child Care Business Opportunity Fund has provided $9.4 million to childcare providers.

WBDC grant recipients have created or retained over 11,000 jobs and supported over 40,000 childcare slots.

WBDC is planning a series of informational sessions for both grant programs over the coming weeks.

The organization also offers no-cost support and guidance for both programs in English and Spanish.
