Connecticut is investing $20 million in a 100,000-square-foot artificial intelligence and workforce development center in downtown Hartford.

The planned Hartford Innovation Center will include collaborative labs, classrooms, and project spaces designed to support the adoption of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

Funding for the center, which will be located at State House Square, will come from the Department of Economic and Community Development’s $100 million Innovation Clusters Program.

That program is designed to strengthen key economic sectors—including biotechnology, financial technology, insurance technology and advanced manufacturing—through public-private partnerships.

The project has drawn financial commitments from Hartford HealthCare, The Hartford, Travelers, Nassau, Google, and QuantumCT.

The Hartford award is the second made under the program, following last September’s $50.5 million investment in a downtown New Haven innovation district focused on life sciences and quantum technology.

The Hartford Innovation Center will focus on Hartford’s insurance and healthcare sectors—two industries that anchor the regional economy and are increasingly integrating AI into their operations.

The project has drawn multiyear financial commitments from several major regional employers and institutions, including Hartford HealthCare, The Hartford, Travelers, Nassau, Google, and QuantumCT.

The investment also dovetails with the state’s Tech Talent Accelerator program—funding industry-led AI training initiatives at Connecticut colleges and universities—and with RAISE US, a national workforce initiative that has raised roughly $500 million to help prepare workers for an AI-driven economy.

“Today’s investment signals our commitment to accelerating economic growth in Hartford while ensuring workers and employers alike benefit from cutting-edge innovation,” Gov. Ned Lamont said.
