Issues & Policies

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is looking for feedback from residents and businesses for its 2027-2030 State Rail Plan.

DOT is hosting a series of open houses throughout September at locations across to the state to review the plan.

The plan is federally required and outlines a vision for passenger and freight rail transportation, identifying strategies, policies, and potential investments to support Connecticut’s rail network.

Agency officials say the plan will guide future rail priorities and investments, support economic activity and mobility, and inform transportation-related decisions across Connecticut and the broader Northeast region.

“The Connecticut State Rail Plan update is a crucial step to prepare and plan for the future of passenger and freight rail transportation in Connecticut,” said the DOT’s Jeffrey Gonneville.

“We encourage the public to attend an open house in the state to share their rail experiences with the project team.”

Open Houses

The open houses will be held at the following locations across Connecticut:

  • New Haven: Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, 5:30-7:30 pm (Ives Main Library, Community Program Room; 133 Elm Street, New Haven)
  • Stamford: Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, 5:30-7:30 pm (Ferguson Library, Dudley H. Williams Jr. Auditorium; 1 Public Library Plaza, Stamford)
  • Hartford: Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, 5:30-7:30 pm (Hartford Union Station, Great Hall; 1 Union Place, Hartford)
  • New London: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, 4:45-6:45 pm (Public Library of New London, Large Community Room; 63 Huntington Street, New London)

The updated plan is expected to be completed in winter 2027.

Members of the public can submit comments and questions online or by leaving a voicemail at 860.594.2020. The deadline for submitting comments is Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026.
