By the Numbers: Helping secure fresh food packaging for nearly 20 years

Created by Shelton-based, family-owned Inline Plastics, Safe-T-Fresh helped redefine food packaging safety. Introduced in 2006, the technology combines a patented tear strip with a tamper-resistant seal, giving consumers a clear visual indication if a package has been opened.

The seal also acts as a leak-resistant barrier, helping protect food quality throughout transportation, merchandising, and handling.

Today, millions of people encounter the technology when purchasing fresh cut produce, prepared foods, snacks, and deli products without realizing it originated in Connecticut.

What makes Safe-T-Fresh packaging remarkable is not just the technology itself, but how naturally it fits into everyday life.

Consumers don’t need to understand the engineering behind it.

They simply recognize the tear strip (a visible, removable plastic strip that seals the lid to the base of the package and once removed, cannot be replaced) and understand what it means: this package has remained secure until the moment they decide to open it.
