HR Hotline Live: Understanding FMLA Requirements
If you’re confused about Family and Medical Leave Act requirements, you’re not alone. CBIA members consistently ask more questions about this employment law than any other.
Particularly for small and medium sized businesses, compliance with Connecticut’s FMLA statute can be a daunting task.
As of Jan. 1, 2022, the state’s FMLA requirements apply to nearly all Connecticut employers, regardless of size.
In this HR Hotline Live, CBIA HR Counsel Diane Mokriski joined Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey attorneys Vincent Farisello and Nick Zaino to discuss common problems and help you understand this complex law.
They discussed the distinctions between Connecticut FMLA’s job protection, and the monetary benefits provided by the Connecticut Paid Leave Authority.
They provided crucial information regarding employer obligations, like required employee notices and reinstatement rules and answered frequently asked questions, like:
- What do we do if the employee fails to complete required paperwork?
- When the employee returns from leave, can we place them in a different position if we’ve replaced them with someone we like better?
- Can an employee take FMLA leave and then go on vacation?
