Legislative Committee Studies Hartford-Brainard Airport

The legislature’s Program Review and Investigations Committee will conduct a study of the Hartford-Brainard Airport and its economic value to the state and region.
The study will also explore other proposed economic uses for the property.
Hartford-Brainard is a state-owned airport operated by the Connecticut Airport Authority.
At its peak, it consisted of two parcels of property, one on either side of the Connecticut River.
The airport is considered a general aviation airport as it provides no scheduled commercial air service.
However, the airport does offer charter flights, flight instruction, private aircraft basing, and is the site of a vocational school for aircraft mechanic instruction and certain State Police operations.

Since that time, maintaining the Hartford parcel as an airport has become increasingly difficult now that a large portion of the property in East Hartford is occupied by a stadium at Rentschler Field.
The committee will hold a public hearing on July 20th at 1 pm in room 2D of the legislative office building in Hartford.
