The Connecticut Port Authority named former Dominion Energy executive Michael O’Connor as its new executive director Dec. 17.

The U.S. Navy veteran (pictured above) succeeds Ulysses Hammond, who led the authority for the past two years on an interim basis.

O’Connor last month announced his retirement from Millstone Power Station, where he was a vice president at the state’s only utility-scale nuclear power plant.

The Bozrah resident worked for Dominion in a series of roles, including senior reactor operator, operations shift manager, nuclear operations manager, director of nuclear station safety and licensing, and plant manager.

“This is an exciting time with the State Pier fully operational as an offshore wind hub.”

The authority is a quasi-public agency with oversight responsibility for ports in Bridgeport, New Haven, and New London, with the latter now a staging point for the state’s off shore wind industry.

“This is an exciting time for the Connecticut Port Authority with the State Pier fully operational as an offshore wind hub and one of the most advanced maritime facilities on the East Coast,” O’Connor said.

He added that revenue generated from operation of New London’s State Pier will allow the authority “to broaden its investments in the state’s maritime infrastructure.”

O’Connor has chaired Bozrah’s Board of Finance since 1995 and is a former member of the Southeastern Connecticut Water Authority Executive Board.
