Special Election June 11 in 53rd House District

There will be a special election on Tuesday, June 11, in the towns of Ashford, Tolland and Willington to fill the vacant 53rd state House seat.
Republican Sam Belsito and Democrat Tony Horn have been chosen as candidates by their parties.
Belsito is a small business owner and a member of the Tolland town council. Horn, a musician, is an alternate on the Ashford board of finance.
Former State Rep. Bryan Hurlburt (D) resigned earlier this year to become executive director of the federal Farm Service Agency’s Connecticut office. He had represented the 53rdDistrict since 2007.
Polls in the district will be open from 6 am to 8 pm on June 11. According to the secretary of the state, anyone not yet registered to vote in the 53rd District and wishing to vote in the special election must complete voter registration by June 10.
