Connecticut has expanded its online business portal to allow companies to register and manage critical aspects of their operations in one place.

The business portal provides firms access to multiple state agencies at one time.

Companies can now connect with the Secretary of State’s office through the portal to fully register with the state, rather than having to create an account elsewhere.

“Starting a business comes with several risks and inherent challenges,” said Secretary of State Denise Merrill.

“Registering should not be one of them.”

The site also allows businesses to file and track annual reports, business amendments, and UCC liens. A live chat feature helps address questions during the process.

“Since I came into office, one of our top goals has been to make sure each entrepreneur can spend less time with the government and more time growing their business and doing good for our residents,” said Gov. Ned Lamont.

“The more we ease the process, the more businesses can focus on growing.”

reSET’s Sarah Bodley

Hartford-based reSET has worked with new businesses for several years. The nonprofit focuses on helping businesses reduce barriers so they can grow sustainable and impactful companies.

“Streamlining the process of getting registered is a great step toward an easier on-ramp for new businesses to get started,” said reSET executive director Sarah Bodley.

“The more we can ease the process of operating the business, the more they can focus on connecting with customers and growing their business.”

Filing

The site also allows businesses to file annual reports, register new employees, manage permits, licenses, and maintain tax forms.

Since the portal launched in 2020, 17,683 new business checklists have gone live, and business support calls with the Department of Economic and Community Development have dropped to three or four minutes per call.

State officials said the portal is continuing to evolve. Updates and additions will take place as they are ready.

“This update is another incredible milestone in Connecticut’s modernization efforts to move toward an all-digital state government experience,” Lamont said.
