The prequalification for Connecticut construction companies working with the state will be simpler this fall.

The Department of Administrative Services’ construction contractor prequalification program has long required contractors to prequalify before bidding on a state or municipal contract estimated to cost more than $500,000 and funded in whole or in part with state funds.

There is an exception for work administered by the Department of Transportation.

The requirement for prequalification for projects increases from $500,000 to $1 million.

The requirement for prequalification for projects increases from $500,000 to $1 million beginning Oct. 1, 2023.

In addition, responses to solicitations over $500,000 but less than $1 million will not require DAS prequalification.

Instead the solicitation will require the bidder to provide specific business organization information, legal administrative procedures, qualification status, and workforce development initiatives, among other details.

DAS officials hope the changes will provide more companies with opportunities to do business with the state on upcoming projects.
