Afghan Asylum Project Seeking Attorneys

The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants is looking for attorneys to assist with asylum cases for Afghan refugees in Connecticut. 

Afghan Legal Refugee Project lead attorney Henry Rowland said there is a desperate need for legal assistance for Afghan evacuees who came to Connecticut last year.

The Connecticut Bar Foundation and Quinnipiac University School of Law are hosting a continuing legal education event to train interested pro bono attorneys in the basics of asylum law in November.

In addition to the CLE training, attorneys interested in the pro bono project will have access to asylum experts and a support team to help with administrative tasks. 

Rowland said the process is relatively quick. The asylum office is interviewing within 45 days of an application being filed. 

Interested attorneys can register for CLE training on Nov. 10 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Quinnipiac University School of Law. There is also a virtual option for the training.
