Healthcare Changes on CBIA Business Minutes

Issues & Policies

Health benefit mandates are state laws requiring insurance companies to cover specific medical procedures or services. In a new series of Business Minute radio reports, CBIA’s Jennifer Herz explains the impact of mandates on employers, employees, and the cost of healthcare and health insurance.

This year, the legislature is considering several more mandates to add to Connecticut’s already high count. With that total affecting the cost of healthcare in Connecticut, new federal legislation will make the cost of any new mandates adopted this year responsibility of the state (no federal subsidy).

On another Business Minute series, CBIA’s Ken Comeau talks about federal healthcare changes. While the federal healthcare reform law has been in place since 2010, regulations to implement the law are still being developed. Comeau discusses some of the initial reporting requirements that affect employers and the deadlines for meeting those obligations.
