OSHA Kicks Off Safe + Sound Week August 13
OSHA encourages Americans to commit to workplace safety and health by participating in Safe + Sound Week, Aug. 13-19, 2018.
Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the value of workplace safety and health programs, which can help employers and workers identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause an injury or illness, improving a company’s financial bottom line.
Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help organizations start a safety and health program or energize an existing one. Over 200 organizations and businesses are partnering with OSHA this year to promote the importance of safety and health programs.
Three Core Elements
Implementing a safety and health program is one of the most effective ways to reduce injuries and illnesses, and improve business. Effective programs can increase worker satisfaction, improve productivity, and reduce costs associated with workplace injuries.
- Management leadership that commits to establishing, maintaining and continually improving the program. Managers must also provide needed resources to support the program.
- Workers who help identify solutions for improvements. A workforce engaged in safety and health programs results in higher productivity, increased job satisfaction, and strong worker retention, which combine to increase revenues and lower turnover and recruitment costs.
- A systematic “find and fix” approach that calls upon employers and workers alike to examine their workplaces—proactively and routinely—to identify and address hazards before an injury or illness occurs.
Participating in Safe + Sound Week is easy. Organizations of any size or in any industry looking for an opportunity to show their commitment to safety can participate.
