Strong fiduciary oversight and protecting workers’ benefits are two of the highest priorities of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The best way to protect workers’ benefits is by preventing problems before they start. Getting it right, however, can be challenging, especially for small and midsize employers who have limited time, resources, and access to professional help with benefit programs.

The DOL’s compliance assistance seminar, Getting It Right: Know Your Fiduciary Responsibilities, will increase awareness and understanding about basic fiduciary responsibilities when operating a retirement plan.

Seminar topics include:

  • Understanding your plan and your responsibilities
  • Carefully selecting and monitoring service providers
  • Making contributions on time
  • Avoiding prohibited transactions
  • Making appropriate disclosures to plan participants and filing annual reports to the government on time

Speakers include officials from the U.S. DOL and the IRS. Participants will be provided with free educational materials and have ample time for questions and answers.

The free program will be held on June 3 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Gray Conference Center, Wilde Auditorium, at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so register as soon as possible and no later than May 27.
