Small Business AI Measure Approved

Lawmakers approved legislation in the closing days of the session designed to support small businesses and startups focused on innovation and growth.

SB 417 authorizes a study of a Small Business Artificial Intelligence Grant Fund, an important and forward looking step.

The bill won unanimous approval from both the state Senate and House.

Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming a baseline business tool—impacting logistics, customer service, marketing, manufacturing, and compliance.

Yet many small businesses lack the capital, expertise, or risk tolerance to adopt AI responsibly.

The study will explore how a state grant program could lower entry barriers, encourage responsible AI adoption, and improve productivity and competitiveness.

While SB 417 is a study rather than an immediate funding program, it lays out critical groundwork for future investment.
