Eversource, Ørsted Back Building Trades Workforce Program

Eversource, Ørsted, and the Connecticut State Building Trades Training Institute are collaborating on a pre-apprenticeship training program to support clean energy investments.

Fifteen New London area students will participate in the upcoming cohort where they will undergo pre-apprenticeship training for union construction careers by skilled union instructions.

Eversource and Ørsted have committed $150,000 to the program through the Revolution Wind project.  

Funding will support costs for the instructors, as well as stipends, transportation, and housing. 

Allison Ziogas, Ørsted Americas region head of labor relations, said it is critical they drive workforce development opportunities through union construction careers. 

Workforce Growth

“A new domestic supply chain and a local workforce are imperative to the success of the American offshore wind industry,” Ziogas said.

Program graduates will be placed in registered apprenticeship programs by the end of 2024. 

Once enrolled in an apprenticeship program, they will continue to receive support and retention services for a period of two years.

“We are excited about this partnership and about empowering New London workers to gain the training and experience needed to successfully navigate a union construction apprenticeship program.”
